Analyst, Renewable Transport Fuels

Job Description: Stratas Advisors is seeking an analyst for its practice area pertaining to renewable transport fuels, including biofuels. The primary focus of this position will be conducting research on renewable transport fuels from global and regional perspectives. The analyst will gather and analyze information and data, and distill key takeaways and implications, provided to clients through online client products and bespoke consulting engagements.

Strong teamwork skills as well as the ability to work independently are critical to this role.

Responsibilities:

  • Monitor and collect data/information on renewable transport fuels and the transport and energy sectors, including overall market growth, fiscal policies, sales of alternative vehicles, trade dimensions and developments by competitor, at a country and region level.
  • Streamline overall data gathering and handling with the help of Stratas Advisors’ database support team.
  • Forecast and model supply and demand, production capacity, feedstock splits, support mechanisms and tariff at the country level.
  • Prepare written analysis of markets and policies in reports/memos/data provided for internal use and for clients, as well as in other forms, such as PowerPoint slides and Excel files.
  • Help coordinate data and information sharing between the Renewable Fuels team and other teams within Stratas Advisors (e.g., Automotive, Fuels Specifications and Downstream teams).
  • Deliver analytical content and market insights associated with strategic consulting engagements.
  • Provide research and analytical support to other teams within Stratas Advisors when required.

Requirements:

  • Experience in an analyst/research role.
  • BA/BS is required, and an MA/MS, specifically with work in economics or transportation/energy, is a plus.
  • Strong quantitative skills with a comfort level using MS Excel are critical.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills in English.
  • Strong problem-solving/critical thinking skills.
  • High level of personal interest and enthusiasm in the transport and energy industries.
  • Understanding of the transport industry, including basic familiarity with foundational technologies, trends, and regulatory environment a plus.
  • Understanding of general economics, including but not limited to supply/demand and price relationships, and familiarity with international markets.
  • Knowledge of German, Chinese, Malay, or Russian is a plus.

Responsibilities:

  • Support and contribute to Stratas Advisors’ subscription-based services by performing quantitative and qualitative research, monitoring and analyzing policies and regulations, writing and updating reports, and preparing and delivering presentations on the following topics:Fuel quality specifications, vehicle emissions and fuel efficiency standards, and retail fuel markets in the regions of Europe and CIS; and other relevant topics pertaining to the energy and transportation sectors including decarbonization efforts associated with Europe and CIS.

Analyst, Automotive

Job Description: Stratas Advisors is immediately seeking an analyst for its Global Automotive team in the Transportation and Demand practice with strong Python ability, great research skills, and a team-first orientation. Strong communication skills as well as the ability to work independently within a team are critical to this role.

This role will conduct research to inform quantitative forecasts on the automotive industry and the on-going energy transition. Research tasks will include gathering, cleaning, and analyzing market data as well as detailed information on new technologies, industry trends, and economics, among others. The analyst will be able to review the gathered information and distill key takeaways and implications, provided to clients both through research products, licensable models, and bespoke consulting engagements. The ideal candidate should have work or academic experience, strong independent work ethic with a collaborative approach, exposure to economic modeling, and experience in Python.

Responsibilities:

  • Monitor and collect data/information on automotive industry developments, including overall market growth, vehicle sales, fuel economy trends, and the growth of electric vehicles and other alternative vehicles, at the regional, national, and subnational level in key markets around the world.
  • Prepare client-facing written analysis of automotive markets in reports/memos provided to clients of the Global Automotive Service and Stratas Automotive Interactive Model (AIM), as well as in other forms, such as Powerpoint slides/Excel data customized for clients in consulting engagements.
  • Maintain and implement improvements on Stratas AIM, a Python-based model to forecast vehicle sales and fleet for key markets around the world.
  • Support the Transport and Demand practice’s forecasting efforts.
  • Help coordinate data and information sharing between the Automotive team and other teams/practices within Stratas Advisors, as well as clearly communicate with clients.
  • Provide both analytical support and market insight in strategic consulting engagements on an ad hoc basis. 

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree is required. Master’s degree and/or work experience (in lieu of advanced degree) in engineering, economics, or forecasting with exposure to programming is a plus.
  • 2 years of experience in an analyst/research role at a consulting firm, financial institution, or academic institution with a focus on the automotive industry, mobility, and/or analysis.
  • Strong quantitative skills with a high comfort level coding in Python is critical. Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and other Microsoft Office suite applications is a must.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proven problem-solving/critical thinking skills.
  • Basic understanding of the automotive industry including familiarity with basic automotive technologies, supply chain, industry trends, and regulatory environment.
